Can't fall asleep? Have you ever had trouble falling asleep while your roommates were still awake? Here's a simple way to fall asleep easier using blackout curtains.

The Solution

Experts say that most people benefit from a darker bedroom when they are sleeping. To solve this sleep issue hang a pair of blackout curtains around your bed, The finished product will resemble a canopy bed. Follow these steps to stop the light from interrupting your sleep.

  1. Measure the height from the floor to the top of your bed, If you do not want complete darkness subtract 1 inch from this measurement. Select blackout curtains that match this measurement.
  2. Prepare the support  needed to hang the curtains. This can be accomplished with a curved curtain rod, command strips, or another adhesive. If you are renting the room, or live in a college dormitory, command strips. are your best option because it can be easily removed without  damaging the walls.
  3.  Hang the curtains from the support. To surround a twin size bed on all sides 2-4 panels is typically enough. For a queen sized bed 3-6 panels is typically enough, for a king sized bed 4-8 panels is typically enough.
  4. Have a good night's sleep!

This works best with bunk beds, but can be used for all sleeping arrangements. This works well because high quality blackout curtains block light from exiting and entering. This means you can use a lamp, or a laptop without disturbing your roommate either. Heavy blackout curtains reduce noise as well.
